I have very, very high expectations for barbecue (all thanks to Jinxi) and I love good barbecue. I was excited to see that Double Wide Grill had a groupon, so the Sheep and I went to try it out during finals week. We ordered appetizers and entrees.
Our appetizer was onion rings. They were actually really good. Nice and crunchy, except the batter was perhaps on the thick side. Overall, we liked the onion rings.
However, the entrees we did not like so much. I ordered beef brisket with slaw and fries. The brisket tasted over done and dry. The barbecue sauce was flat, tasting like only sugar and vinegar. The slaw wasn’t even marinated – it tasted like someone hurriedly put together cabbage, vinegar and sugar and served it to us. Even the fries weren’t exciting.
The ribs were similar – dry, overcooked, and covered with a boring (possibly store bought?) sauce. I don’t even want to talk about the corn bread.
I think my experience overall was quite disappointing. I would probably try to avoid this place, even their 15 dollars for all-you-can-eat ribs on Tuesday nights. I just don’t think its worth it.
Have you been to Double Wide Grill? What did you think about it?
